UPDATE January 6th, 2015: The latest information on this new festival can be found here.

Canadian Bonnaroo-goers rejoice! Bonnaroo is finally coming a little closer to home. Well, kinda.

Bonnaroo co-founder and AC Entertainment president Ashley Capps confirmed that AC Entertainment will be staging HomeAway, a destination music festival, about an hour north of Toronto in summer 2015. While speaking with Josh Flory of the Knoxville News Sentinel, Capps said that HomeAway, an event many years in the making, will be co-produced with Republic Live.

Capps says Republic Live’s success and experience in producing massive camping festivals in southern Ontario makes them “great partners” for HomeAway. Over the last three years, Republic Live has turned Boots and Hearts into the biggest camping music festival in Canada.

While an official location for HomeAway has yet to be announced, Republic Live recently signed a long-term agreement with Stan Dunford, the new owner of Burl’s Creek, a 700-acre slab of pristine parkland just outside Barrie, Ontario. Dunford, also a majority shareholder of Republic Live, told Andrew Phillips of the Orillia Packet that renovations to turn the park into a “world-class facility” are well underway, and that announcements regarding “events that explored other genres of music” would be forthcoming.

Shortly after Capps informally announced HomeAway, Burl’s Creek issued a press release which officially relaunched the park as “Canada’s largest outdoor festival venue.” The Burl’s Creek press release boasted that the park’s 80,000-person capacity gives it the unique ability to host “globally-recognized music festivals.”

The addition of HomeAway this summer will further crowd the northeast festival scene. Independently-run Toronto festivals like TURF and Field Trip will face fierce competition from the heavily-rumored Toronto Lollapalooza stopover, and only a few hundred miles away, Osheaga will be celebrating nine successful years in Montreal. AC Entertainment will hope that their talent-booking power, combined with the successful track record of Republic Live will hit the right note with festival-goers this summer.

An announcement with the official dates, location and lineup of HomeAway is expected in early 2015. Watch a short aerial video of the proposed festival site below.
