It’s summer and the big business festival market battle in New York City seems to be heating up. Today Founders Entertainment, the same organizers behind Governors Ball, revealed the inaugural lineup for their brand new endeavour named The Meadows Music Festival. The brand new 2-day music festival will take place October 1-2 at the Citi Field complex in Flushing Meadows Corona Park located in Queens. According to a press release the Meadows Music and Arts Festival will play host to over 42 artists across four stages, showcase a world’s fair of cuisine from around the globe, and feature a tour de force in craft cocktails from some of the finest mixologists around.
Topping the 2016 lineup will be Kanye West, a booking made after the unfortunate weather-related cancellation of his performance during Governors Ball. The Weeknd, Chance The Rapper, and Kygo also share the inaugural lineup’s top line. Other highlights include Grimes, Empire Of The Sun, Savages, Chromeo, Zhu, Cage The Elephant, Kamasi Washington, Metric, Twin Shadow (Performing ‘Purple Rain’), Sylvan Esso, Yeasayer, Pusha T, The Temper Trap, Charles Bradley, Miami Horror, Mas Ysa, and Pretty Lights who’s name is included in today’s press release but mysteriously absent from the lineup graphic.
All past Governors Ball ticket purchasers will receive a promo code via email for The Meadows Music and Arts Festival pre-sale that launches tomorrow, Wednesday, June 22nd at 11 AM EST. A general on sale will follow on Thursday, June 23rd at 11 AM EST and passes can be purchased on the festival website here.
“Launching the Meadows Festival in Queens this fall with an incredible lineup of music, art, food and culture is a dream come true”, said Tom Russell (Partner at Founders Entertainment). “As a native New Yorker I grew up in awe of the innovative spirit surrounding Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. With this event we can shine a spotlight once again on this iconic neighborhood and bring with it the economic benefits, strong community partnerships and local hiring for which Founders Entertainment is known. We are so grateful to the de Blasio Administration and Metropolitan Hospitality for giving us this opportunity and to all the artists who have enthusiastically agreed to take this inaugural ride with us.”
